Inmate Mentoring Program - Part II: Policies & Procedures

Coach Eligibility Requirements
All Coach Applicants Will:
  • Be approximately 35 years of age or older
  • Have served approximately 10 or more years in prison
  • Possess either a high school diploma or GED
  • Be willing to make a one year commitment to the program
  • Agree to meet weekly for a "Coach's Conference" and Training Session to discuss partnership progress
  • Commit to meeting twice per week with (each) Mentee
  • Complete the Coach's Training Seminar
  • Be willing and able to devote at least one hour of personal attention per week to EACH mentee
  • Have the ability and desire to lead by example in all aspects of daily living
  • Maintain "clear conduct" and avoid all "serious" institutional incident reports
  • Record a positive evaluation from the Psychology Department
  • Obtain a referral from at least one staff member and one inmate attesting to candidate's good character and reliability.

Mentee Qualification Criteria
​All Mentees will:
  • Be between the ages of 18-30
  • Have at least six months remaining until projected release date
  • Possess a sincere interest and willingness to receive guidance from a HOPE Coach
  • Agree to follow all of the program rules and guidelines
  • Obtain a Referral or Approval from Staff
